Facility monitoring and security systems

Monitoring and security systems for pipelines, perimeter of extended facilities, transport facilities, airports, hydraulic structures and the mining industry. Distributed fiber-optic sensors provide continuous real-time collection of data on strain, temperature and vibration.

Six systems — one technology

A fiber-optic sensor solution tailored to every type of infrastructure

Pipeline monitoring and security systems

The monitoring technology captures various events in real time over long distances along the pipeline. The system, with connected fiber-optic cables acting as the sensing element, provides continuous collection and analysis of data on strain, temperature and vibration, building a complete digital picture of the facility's condition and forecasting possible deviations.

The system automatically classifies events and filters out false alarms.

Perimeter security systems for extended facilities

The perimeter security alarm workstation is designed to alert the operator to unauthorised (or authorised — for tracking the fact and time of crossing the controlled zone) intrusion into the controlled area.

A distributed fiber-optic vibro-seismic sensor is used as the sensing element. As a result, the perimeter security alarm is electrically passive and does not react to high-frequency interference from radars and high-voltage lines.

During commissioning, the entire controlled perimeter is divided into zones depending on the terrain and type of fencing. Through the graphical interface, the workstation operator sees each zone linked to the map and the facility, and can arm and disarm zones. Colour indicates zone status: green — armed, grey — disarmed, red — alarm. When triggered, event information is stored in a log with time, location and status, and transmitted to the video surveillance system.

Workstation advantages
  • Continuous registration and control of intrusions into protected zones or specific sections
  • Division into logical security zones, management of zone status
  • Runs on Linux family operating systems (Astra Linux, Ubuntu)
  • Ability to generate reports on events and user actions
  • Role-based access model
  • Version with a mimic diagram and 3D facility plan
How it works
  • Distributed fiber-optic vibro-seismic sensor
  • Electrically passive line — insensitive to high-frequency interference
  • Each zone linked to the map and to the facility
  • Colour indication of zone status (green / grey / red)
  • Event log with time, location and status
  • Integration with the video surveillance system

Monitoring and security systems for transport infrastructure facilities

Solutions for road and rail infrastructure. Geotechnical monitoring (GTM) is designed for the early detection of critical states of the subgrade under challenging geological conditions: permafrost soils, karst phenomena, landslide-prone sections, water-saturated soils (marshes, peatlands) and seismically active regions.

Primary purpose of the system
  • Early detection of permafrost degradation (thawing)
  • Identification of road sections with permafrost degradation
  • Measurement of vertical soil deformation, including during permafrost thaw
  • Determination of the vertical temperature distribution profile in permafrost
  • Assessment of the rate of permafrost degradation
  • Early detection of karst and suffusion processes
  • Determination of landslide boundaries along the road
  • Determination of the depth of the sliding boundary
  • Early detection of subsidence processes in water-saturated soils and seismically active regions
Monitored conditions
  • Permafrost soils
  • Karst phenomena
  • Landslide-prone sections
  • Water-saturated soils — marshes, peatlands
  • Seismically active regions
  • Generation of an alarm signal upon reaching critical values
  • Automatic transmission of a warning about the hazardous state of a section

Airport monitoring and security systems

The perimeter security alarm workstation is designed to alert the operator to unauthorised intrusion into an airport's controlled area.

The fiber-optic geotechnical monitoring system (FO-GTM) monitors the base and the top structure of airfield pavements by integrating fiber-optic sensors into the expansion joints. A grid of longitudinal and transverse sensors allows the facility's condition to be monitored across the entire airfield surface. The FO-GTM signals any deviation from the design position.

Fiber-optic sensors installed in the airfield base during construction or reconstruction increase the reliability of the artificial pavements and detect hazardous geological processes at an early stage — those that could later lead to deformation of the airfield's top structure.

Operating procedure
  • Airfield operating regulations — developed at the design stage
  • Airfield monitoring programme — based on detailed analysis of the factors driving pavement deformation
  • Integration of fiber-optic sensors into expansion joints
  • Facility condition monitoring across the entire airfield surface
System capabilities
  • Early detection of hazardous geological processes
  • Warning of deviations from the design position
  • Monitoring of the base and top structure of airfield pavements
  • Improved reliability of artificial pavements
  • Integration with the video surveillance system and integrated security data system

Monitoring systems for hydraulic structures (dams and embankments)

A distributed fiber-optic sensor makes it possible to monitor the stress-strain state of the dam, hazardous ground movements, water filtration through the dam body and the dam's spatial behaviour in real time — with the construction of a 3D model.

To identify the zone of water filtration into the ground, a temperature sensor with a built-in heating element is installed. The technology for monitoring the condition of earthen dams, based on dynamic measurement of soil heat transfer via conduction and convection, substantially expands the possibilities for measuring water filtration through the dam body. Independence from uncontrolled climatic conditions allows measurements to be carried out 24/365.

Monitoring systems for the mining industry

A fiber-optic cable sensor is installed along the tunnel and monitors changes in temperature and strain in real time to ensure a high level of safety and control over the condition of tunnel elements.

The system enables monitoring of ground movements and deformations both during construction itself and later during tunnel operation. The number and topology of sensors is determined by the project and depends on the tasks to be solved, the complexity of the geological environment around the tunnel (groundwater, seismicity, landslide processes) and the required accuracy of the digital model.

Ground monitoring around the tunnel
  • Monitoring of soil decompaction and initial movements with a strain sensor
  • Identification of potential hazards before tunnel body deformation begins
  • Monitoring of changes in soil water saturation and infiltration through temperature changes
  • Monitoring of deformation and temperature of the soil surrounding the tunnel
Tunnel vault monitoring
  • Monitoring of tunnel vault deformation caused by mechanical loads and ground movements
  • Monitoring of tubbing (lining segment) movement
  • Deviation from the design geometry of the tunnel
  • Creation of a digital 3D model of the tunnel
  • Monitoring of vault deformation and temperature
